A university cannot waive the English requirement for visa purposes. An Irish institution may admit you on the strength of your NEB English marks. The visa office will still refuse you without a test result. Anyone selling you a “study in Ireland without IELTS” route is describing the admission, not the visa.

Demand is not a visa guarantee, and a course chosen only for migration is easy for a visa officer to spot. Your programme should follow logically from what you have already studied. Ask us to sanity check the shortlist before you pay an application fee.

Work backwards, not forwards. For a September start you want your offer by March, your EUR 6,000 tuition paid and your NOC issued by April, and your visa lodged by May. No Objection Certificate
NPR 2,000 at noc.moest.gov.np, issued in 3 to 7 working days. You cannot legally remit tuition without it.

Pay your tuition deposit
Remit at least EUR 6,000, or the full fee if lower, and get written confirmation of receipt on your acceptance letter. Keep the transfer record.

AVATS application and document pack
Online application, Financial Summary Form, six months of statements for you and every sponsor, tax returns, English test, medical insurance and police clearances. We build the file.

VFS appointment and biometrics
Submit at VFS Global in Putalisadak, pay the EUR 60 charge and the VFS service fee, give fingerprints and a photograph. Your file then travels to New Delhi.

Decision and pre departure briefing
IRP registration within 90 days of arrival at EUR 300, plus accommodation, banking, SIM and your first week sorted.

Undisclosed refusals are fatal. A refusal from any country, hidden, results in refusal of this application and a ban on future ones. This is the most expensive mistake we see, and it is almost always made on someone else’s advice.

How much money is required to study in Ireland?

Budget EUR 22,000 to 40,000 for your first year. The EUR 10,000 living cost figure is what you must evidence to Irish immigration, not money you hand over. The EUR 6,000 tuition, by contrast, genuinely leaves your account before anyone approves anything.

You pay EUR 6,000 of tuition before you lodge, not after. Since 30 June 2025 an Irish student visa will not be granted unless your institution confirms it has received at least EUR 6,000 in fees, or the full amount if the course costs less. Your acceptance letter has to state it. Plan the remittance, and the NOC that legally permits it, months before you plan the visa.

Add NPR 2,000 for your NOC, a VFS service fee of roughly NPR 3,500 to 4,500, plus test, police clearance, translation and notarisation fees. The EUR 60 visa charge is not refunded if you are refused.

The thing nobody tells you

Your file is decided in New Delhi, not Kathmandu

There is no Irish visa office in Nepal. Every application to study in Ireland from Nepal is assessed by the New Delhi Visa Office at the Embassy of Ireland in India, which handles Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. VFS Global in Putalisadak collects your documents and biometrics and forwards them. VFS makes no decision.

You can lodge five months ahead, and you should. Files are assessed in strict order of receipt
Under three weeks before your course start, a decision cannot be guaranteed

0 Irish visa offices in Nepal. Every consultancy quoting you a “Kathmandu processing time” is quoting you something that does not exist. Build a correct first application, and lodge it early.

Check the ILEP list yourself before you pay anything. The Interim List of Eligible Programmes is published by Irish immigration and it is the only list that matters. If your course is not on it at the level you are studying, no student visa can be granted, and your Stamp 1G eligibility later depends on the same listing. Ask the international office to confirm ILEP status and NFQ level in writing at offer stage.

Funding

Scholarships for Nepali students

Funding is thinner than for Australia or the UK, so plan to self fund most of the decision. Three routes are worth the effort.

Full fee

Government of Ireland scholarship

Full tuition waiver plus a EUR 10,000 stipend for one year. Call opens January, results early June. Extremely competitive.

2 to 5k

University merit awards

Partial fee reductions in euro. Some automatic, some need a separate application with its own deadline.

Departmental funding

At master’s and PhD level, schools often hold money that never reaches the international admissions page. Ask the programme director directly.

The Ireland Fellows Programme is not open to Nepali applicants. Its Asia strand covers Vietnam, Cambodia and Lao PDR only. Several Nepali consultancy pages list it anyway. If someone has told you to apply, that tells you something about the rest of their advice.

Frequently asked questions

How much money is required to study in Ireland from Nepal?

Budget EUR 22,000 to 40,000 for year one: EUR 10,000 to 25,000 tuition for most programmes, EUR 10,000 in living costs you must evidence, EUR 500 to 700 for private medical insurance, the EUR 60 visa charge, the EUR 300 Irish Residence Permit fee after arrival, and around EUR 700 airfare. On the Nepal side add the NPR 2,000 NOC fee, your English test fee, police clearances, translation and notarisation.

Do I really have to pay EUR 6,000 before I apply for the visa?

Yes. Since 30 June 2025 you must have paid at least EUR 6,000 in tuition to your institution, or the full fee if it is lower, before the visa application is lodged, and your acceptance letter must confirm receipt. There is no waiver. Institutions have their own refund policies if the visa is later refused, so read those terms before you remit.

Can I work while studying in Ireland?

Yes. Stamp 2 student permission allows up to 20 hours per week during term and 40 hours per week during scheduled holidays, which run roughly June to September and mid December to mid January. The national minimum wage is EUR 14.15 an hour from January 2026. You must also maintain the attendance your institution requires.

Can I study in Ireland without IELTS?

No, not for the visa. An approved English language test is compulsory for every Irish student visa and failing to submit one results in refusal. A university may waive its own English requirement based on your previous study, but an institution cannot waive the requirement for visa purposes. Anyone telling you otherwise is describing the admission, not the visa.

Why does my Ireland visa application go to India?

Because there is no Irish visa office in Nepal. Every application to study in Ireland from Nepal is decided by the New Delhi Visa Office at the Embassy of Ireland in India. How long does the Ireland student visa take from Nepal?

Plan on several weeks from submission, and lodge early. You can apply up to five months before your course start date, and the visa office states that applications received less than three weeks before the start date cannot be guaranteed a decision. Current processing times and a running list of decisions are published on the New Delhi Visa Office website. Check it rather than relying on anyone’s estimate, including ours.

What is Stamp 1G and how long do I get?

Stamp 1G is the Third Level Graduate Programme, Ireland’s post study work permission. Honours bachelor’s graduates at NFQ Level 8 get 12 months. Master’s and doctoral graduates at Level 9 or 10 get up to 24 months, issued as 12 months plus a renewal you must justify with evidence of job seeking. You apply within six months of your final results, the fee is EUR 300, and your total time on Stamp 2 plus Stamp 1G is capped at seven years at Level 8 and eight at Level 9 and above.

Can I bring my spouse or children?

In most cases only if you are studying at NFQ Level 9 or above. Under current rules undergraduate and short course students generally cannot sponsor dependants. Dependants apply separately, need their own medical insurance, and you must show financial means for them over and above your own EUR 10,000.
