Study in Dubai from Nepal
A British, American or Australian degree earned four hours from Kathmandu, 20 hours of work rights a week, and tax free earnings. Here is what it actually costs to study in Dubai from Nepal in 2026, and the one accreditation check that decides whether your degree counts back home.
How much money is required to study in Dubai?
For one year, a single student who plans to study in Dubai from Nepal should budget AED 90,000 to AED 160,000, which at the August 2026 rate of about NPR 41.5 to the dirham is roughly NPR 37 lakh to NPR 66 lakh. That is AED 40,000 to 80,000 in bachelor’s tuition, AED 42,000 to 72,000 in living costs, and about AED 6,000 for the visa package, medical, Emirates ID and health insurance.
Two warnings before you use any other number you have read. First, most Nepali consultancy pages still convert dirhams at NPR 36 to 38, which understates the rupee cost of a Dubai year by ten percent or more. Second, unlike Australia or France there is no fixed government “funds you must prove” figure here, because your university sponsors the visa. That makes the visa easier and the budgeting harder, since nothing external stops you from committing to a fee you cannot sustain for three years.
| First year cost | AED | Approx NPR |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition, bachelor’s | 40,000 to 80,000 | 16.6 to 33.2 lakh |
| Tuition, master’s or MBA | 50,000 to 120,000 | 20.8 to 49.8 lakh |
| Living costs, shared accommodation | 42,000 to 72,000 | 17.4 to 29.9 lakh |
| Student visa package, medical, Emirates ID | 3,500 to 6,500 | 1.5 to 2.7 lakh |
| Health insurance, compulsory | 1,000 to 1,500 | 41,000 to 62,000 |
| Refundable university or visa deposit | 1,000 to 5,000 | refunded later |
| Return airfare, Kathmandu to Dubai | about 1,000 | about 41,000 |
| Indicative first year, bachelor’s | 90,000 to 160,000 | 37 to 66 lakh |
Add NPR 2,000 for your No Objection Certificate, your IELTS or PTE fee, and document attestation and notarisation costs. Merit scholarships in Dubai are unusually generous and routinely cut tuition by 20 to 50 percent, so the top of this range is rarely what a strong applicant pays. Ask our counselling team to cost your actual shortlist.
The accreditation check that decides whether your degree counts in Nepal
Dubai has two different pieces of paper that both sound like accreditation, and they are not the same thing. Getting this wrong is the single most expensive mistake you can make when you study in Dubai from Nepal, and almost no consultancy page explains it.
Licensure and programme accreditation
Issued federally by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This is what makes a degree recognised for UAE government employment, for further study, and for equivalence in Nepal.
A Dubai free zone permit
Issued by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority for institutions in free zones such as Dubai International Academic City. Legitimate, but on its own it is a permit to operate, not federal accreditation.
Nepal’s equivalence, new since 2026
From Shrawan 1, 2083, 17 July 2026, the University Grants Commission replaced Tribhuvan University’s Curriculum Development Centre as the body that grants foreign degree equivalence. Online applications opened on 21 July 2026.
- Ask every institution, in writing, whether the specific programme you are joining holds MoHESR programme accreditation, not just an institutional licence.
- Ask whether the degree is awarded by the home campus abroad or by the Dubai entity, and whether the parent university is on Nepal’s list of recognised institutions.
- If you intend to sit Lok Sewa, teach, or enrol in a Nepali master’s, budget the time and the paperwork for UGC equivalence at ugcequivalence.edu.np before you leave, not after you return.
- A consultancy that cannot answer the first two questions on the spot has told you something about itself.
None of this is a reason to avoid Dubai. The large international branch campuses there are the real thing, they teach the parent university’s curriculum, and they award the parent university’s degree. It is a reason to check which category your offer letter falls into before AED 60,000 leaves Nepal.
Why study in Dubai?
Dubai now hosts 42,026 higher education students across 41 private institutions, 37 of which are international branch campuses of universities based elsewhere. International enrolment rose 29 percent in a single year, and 35 percent of students there are international. It is the fastest growing branch campus market in the world, and it is four and a half hours from Kathmandu on a direct flight.
Work rights a week, tax free
Up to 20 hours a week in term and 40 during official breaks, with a MoHRE permit. The UAE levies no personal income tax, so you keep the whole wage.
Branch campuses in one city
UK, Australian, American, Indian, French and Russian universities all teach in Dubai. You take the parent institution’s degree without the parent country’s tuition.
Golden visa for top graduates
Graduate with a 3.5 GPA from a Tier A university, or 3.8 from Tier B, and you can self sponsor a 10 year residence visa within two years of graduating.
There is also the plain practical argument for choosing to study in Dubai from Nepal. The UAE is already the largest destination for Nepali migrants, taking over 41 percent of all new foreign employment approvals, so most families studying this page have a relative in the Emirates. Flights are short and cheap, the time difference is one hour and fifteen minutes, and if something goes wrong you can be home the next day. That matters more than the brochures admit.
Eligibility checklist for Nepali applicants
These are the baselines you have to clear to study in Dubai from Nepal. The admission decision and the visa decision are effectively one decision here, because your university sponsors the visa. That means the university’s own bar is the bar.
Academic
- +2, Grade 12 or A Levels from a recognised board, typically 50 to 60 percent and above, for bachelor’s entry
- A recognised bachelor’s degree, usually 50 percent or a 2.5 GPA, for master’s entry
- Transcripts, character certificate, migration certificate and provisional certificate
English
- IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 for most bachelor’s programmes
- IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 for master’s and MBA programmes
- PTE Academic and TOEFL iBT are widely accepted equivalents
- Many institutions waive the test where your +2 was taught and examined in English. Get the waiver confirmed in writing
Documents and attestation
- Passport valid at least six months, with clear scanned pages
- Academic certificates attested by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nepal, then by the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu
- Passport photographs to UAE specification, white background
- Medical fitness test and biometrics, completed after you arrive in the UAE
Finances
- No fixed government funds figure, but universities ask for proof you can pay tuition and living costs
- Bank statements, a sponsor’s income proof, or an education loan sanction letter from a Nepali bank
- Plan for the full course, not the first semester. Renewal each year depends on fees being paid and enrolment continuing
- Compulsory health insurance, renewed annually with the visa
Attestation is the step Nepali applicants underestimate. It runs through two Nepali ministries and then the UAE Embassy, and it cannot be rushed in the week before an intake closes. Our visa application assistance team starts it the day your offer arrives.
The Dubai student visa, and what it does and does not allow
This is the part that makes it structurally easier to study in Dubai from Nepal than to study in Australia or Canada. A UAE student visa is a residence visa sponsored by your accredited institution, granted for one year at a time and renewable on proof that you are still enrolled. Your university applies to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs on your behalf; you do not lodge it yourself. Processing typically runs 15 to 20 days, and the entry permit you receive is usually valid for two months, so book your flight inside that window.
Working while you study
- Up to 20 hours a week during term, up to 40 during official breaks
- You need a part time work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, plus a No Objection Certificate from your university
- Federal permit fees are about AED 100, plus up to AED 72 at a service centre. Your employer applies, not you
- Free zones such as DIFC, ADGM, DMCC and Dubai Knowledge Park run their own separate rules
- Earnings are not taxed, but working without a permit puts your residence visa at risk
After you graduate
- Jobseeker visit visa, 60, 90 or 120 days, at AED 200, 300 or 400 plus a refundable AED 1,000 deposit, for graduates of top 500 universities
- Green visa, a 5 year self sponsored residence permit for skilled workers earning from AED 15,000 a month
- Golden visa, 10 years, for outstanding graduates with a 3.5 GPA from a Tier A university or 3.8 from Tier B, applied for within two years of graduating
- There is no permanent residency or citizenship route in the UAE. Long stay here means renewable residence, not settlement
That last point deserves plain language. If your family’s goal is a passport, Dubai is not the destination, and any counsellor who implies otherwise is selling you something. If the goal is a recognised degree, work experience in a global business hub and the option of a long renewable residence, it is one of the strongest value propositions available from Nepal. Weighing that against Australia or Canada is exactly the conversation to have before you apply.
Intakes in Dubai
| Intake | Course starts | Apply from Nepal by |
|---|---|---|
| September, main intake | Early to late September | March to June |
| January, second intake | January to early February | September to November |
| May or summer, limited | May | February to March |
Dubai is faster than most destinations for anyone applying to study in Dubai from Nepal: four to six months from first counselling session to boarding pass is realistic, and offers often arrive within one to two weeks. The two steps that break that timeline are document attestation in Kathmandu and the medical and Emirates ID process after arrival. Start attestation first. Meet our counsellors at an upcoming education expo.
Your journey to Dubai, step by step
Eight steps take you from a first conversation to an Emirates ID. Plan on four to six months end to end, which is the shortest realistic timeline of any destination we work with, and start the attestation step earlier than feels necessary.

Free counselling and profile assessment
We check your marks, English, budget and career plan, then shortlist MoHESR accredited programmes you can genuinely be admitted to. Book a session at any of our offices or online.
- 2
English test, or a documented waiver
IELTS or PTE for most programmes. If your institution waives the test on the strength of English medium schooling, get that in writing before you rely on it.
- 3
Apply and receive your offer letter
Dubai universities are quick. Most respond within one to two weeks, and many issue conditional offers on scanned documents.
- 4
Document attestation in Kathmandu
Ministry of Education, then Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the UAE Embassy. Begin the day the offer lands. This is the step that causes missed intakes.
- 5
No Objection Certificate
NPR 2,000 at noc.moest.gov.np, issued in 3 to 7 working days. You cannot legally remit tuition without it.
- 6
Pay the deposit and get your entry permit
Your university applies to GDRFA as your sponsor. Expect 15 to 20 days, and travel inside the two month validity of the permit.
- 7
Arrival, medical, Emirates ID and visa stamping
Medical fitness test and biometrics in Dubai, then your residence visa is issued and your Emirates ID follows. Your university walks you through it.
- 8
Settle in, and only then look for work
Accommodation, bank account, Nol card, SIM. Apply for a MoHRE part time work permit once your residence visa is in hand, never before.
Universities and scholarships
Nepcoms places students who study in Dubai from Nepal across three quite different tiers, and the fee gap between them is larger than in any other destination we work with.
International branch campuses
UK, Australian and American universities teaching their own curriculum in Dubai. Higher fees, strongest brand, degree awarded by the parent university.
UAE and regional universities
Established local institutions with full MoHESR accreditation. Mid range fees, strong local employer recognition.
Free zone colleges
The cheapest option, and the one where the accreditation question above matters most. Check the programme, not the marketing.
Business is by far the largest field in Dubai, taking about 44 percent of all higher education students there, followed by engineering and IT. Aviation, hospitality, cybersecurity and AI are the fastest growing. See our partner institutions.
Scholarships for Nepali students
Scholarships are one of the genuine advantages of choosing to study in Dubai from Nepal, because institutional merit funding here is far more freely given than in Australia or the UK. It is also where the marketing gets loosest, so here is the honest version.
What is actually available
- Merit scholarships of 20 to 50 percent of tuition, awarded on +2 or bachelor’s marks. These are common, not exceptional
- Occasional 100 percent merit awards at individual institutions for outstanding results
- Early admission and sibling discounts, worth asking about explicitly
- Sports, leadership and innovation awards at some campuses
How to actually get one
- Apply early. Most merit funds are allocated in order of application, not merit alone
- Ask for the scholarship in writing on the offer, with the renewal condition stated
- Check whether it applies to every year or only the first
- There is no large national government scholarship for international students in the UAE, so ignore any promise of one
