Study in Ireland from Nepal
The only native English speaking country left in the EU, 20 hours of work rights a week, and a stay back visa of up to two years. Here is what it costs, and why your visa file is decided in New Delhi rather than Kathmandu.
Eligibility checklist
Academic
- Bachelor’s: NEB Grade 12 at 60% and above, or equivalent GPA
- Master’s: a recognised bachelor’s degree at 55 to 60%, or GPA 2.8 and above
- Originals and semester mark sheets for every qualification, not just the final transcript
- Any study gap explained in writing. Ireland has no fixed gap limit, but an unexplained one reads as weak intent
Financial Summary Form
- Six months of your own bank statements, plus six months for every sponsor
- Income tax return acknowledgements for all relevant parties
- A documented source for every large deposit
- Consolidated funds. Money spread across five relatives reads as unclear
- Original loan documents if you use an education loan. A sanction letter alone is not enough
Not accepted as evidence
- Cryptocurrency, stocks, shares and mutual funds
- Gold valuations and chit funds
- Property and jewellery held as assets
- Gold counts only once liquidated into a bank account, or converted to a gold loan

Why study in Ireland?
Ireland is a full EU member and the only one where English is the working language of daily life. An Irish degree is a European qualification with no second language to learn first.
Work rights per week
40 hours a week during scheduled holidays, at a minimum wage of EUR 14.15 an hour.
Stay back on Stamp 1G
24 months after a master’s or PhD, 12 months after an honours bachelor’s. No job offer needed.
To long term residence
On a Critical Skills permit, against 57 months on a General Employment Permit.
Google, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, LinkedIn and most of the large pharmaceutical manufacturers run European operations from Dublin, Cork and Galway. That concentration is the real argument for Ireland, and it is why the Stamp 1G to employment permit conversion works more often here than the headline numbers suggest.
Top courses in Ireland
The fields Nepali students most often pick when they study in Ireland from Nepal, chosen for graduate demand rather than ranking alone. Check that your specific award appears on the ILEP list at the level you are studying before you accept any offer.
Computing and data
AI, data science, cybersecurity and cloud. Dublin’s deepest employer pool.
Pharmaceutical science
Ireland is a global manufacturing hub. Cork and Dublin lead.
Nursing and health
Persistent shortage. Registration requirements are separate from the visa, so check NMBI early.
Engineering
Biomedical, electronic, mechanical and renewable energy.
Business and finance
Widest choice. Pick a specialisation, not a generic MBA.
Supply chain and logistics
Quietly one of Ireland’s strongest graduate hiring areas.
Demand is not a visa guarantee, and a course chosen only for migration is easy for a visa officer to spot. Your programme should follow logically from what you have already studied. Ask us to sanity check the shortlist before you pay an application fee.
Intakes in Ireland
| Intake | Course starts | Apply from Nepal by |
|---|---|---|
| September, main intake | Early to mid September | Dec to Mar, prior year |
| January, second intake | Mid to late January | Jun to Sep, prior year |
| May, limited | May, private colleges only | Dec to Feb |
Work backwards, not forwards. For a September start you want your offer by March, your EUR 6,000 tuition paid and your NOC issued by April, and your visa lodged by May. Applications are processed in strict chronological order of receipt, so the date you lodge is the only lever you have on timing. Meet our counsellors in person at an upcoming education expo.
Your journey to Ireland
Seven steps take you from a first conversation to a boarding pass. For most students who study in Ireland from Nepal, that is 6 to 9 months end to end.
- 1
Free counselling
We shortlist ILEP listed courses you can be approved for, not just admitted to. Book a session.
- 2
Apply and receive an unconditional offer
Most Irish institutions respond within 2 to 4 weeks. A conditional offer is not enough for the visa stage. See our partner institutions.
- 3
No Objection Certificate
NPR 2,000 at noc.moest.gov.np, issued in 3 to 7 working days. You cannot legally remit tuition without it.
- 4
Pay your tuition deposit
Remit at least EUR 6,000, or the full fee if lower, and get written confirmation of receipt on your acceptance letter. Keep the transfer record.
- 5
AVATS application and document pack
Online application, Financial Summary Form, six months of statements for you and every sponsor, tax returns, English test, medical insurance and police clearances. We build the file.
- 6
VFS appointment and biometrics
Submit at VFS Global in Putalisadak, pay the EUR 60 charge and the VFS service fee, give fingerprints and a photograph. Your file then travels to New Delhi.
- 7
Decision and pre departure briefing
IRP registration within 90 days of arrival at EUR 300, plus accommodation, banking, SIM and your first week sorted.

How much money is required to study in Ireland?
Budget EUR 22,000 to 40,000 for your first year. The EUR 10,000 living cost figure is what you must evidence to Irish immigration, not money you hand over. The EUR 6,000 tuition, by contrast, genuinely leaves your account before anyone approves anything.
| First year cost | EUR |
|---|---|
| Tuition, bachelor’s to master’s | 10,000 to 35,000 |
| Living costs you must evidence | 10,000 |
| Courses of 8 months or less, instead | 833 per month |
| Private medical insurance | 500 to 700 |
| Student visa charge, Long Stay “D” | 60 |
| Irish Residence Permit, after arrival | 300 |
| Airfare | about 700 |
| Indicative total, single student | 22,000 to 40,000 |
Add NPR 2,000 for your NOC, a VFS service fee of roughly NPR 3,500 to 4,500, plus test, police clearance, translation and notarisation fees. The EUR 60 visa charge is not refunded if you are refused.
Your file is decided in New Delhi, not Kathmandu
There is no Irish visa office in Nepal. Every application to study in Ireland from Nepal is assessed by the New Delhi Visa Office at the Embassy of Ireland in India, which handles Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. VFS Global in Putalisadak collects your documents and biometrics and forwards them. VFS makes no decision.
- Nepal residents can buy VFS’s In-depth Verification service. India gets Check and Verify instead. Take it
- You can lodge five months ahead, and you should. Files are assessed in strict order of receipt
- Under three weeks before your course start, a decision cannot be guaranteed
- If your offer’s start date has passed by the time assessment begins, the file is withdrawn. You start again
- Appeals run to two months and take longer than fresh applications. Do not plan around one
Top universities and how to check any provider
Nepcoms places students across the full range of ILEP listed providers.
Universities
Trinity College Dublin, UCD, UCC, University of Galway, University of Limerick, DCU, Maynooth.
Technological universities
TU Dublin, MTU, ATU, SETU and TUS. Often better value, and frequently the stronger fit for nursing, engineering and computing.
Private colleges
National College of Ireland, Griffith College, Dublin Business School.
Scholarships for Nepali students
Funding is thinner than for Australia or the UK, so plan to self fund most of the decision. Three routes are worth the effort.
Government of Ireland scholarship
Full tuition waiver plus a EUR 10,000 stipend for one year. Call opens January, results early June. Extremely competitive.
University merit awards
Partial fee reductions in euro. Some automatic, some need a separate application with its own deadline.
Departmental funding
At master’s and PhD level, schools often hold money that never reaches the international admissions page. Ask the programme director directly.
