Three changes matter most
Most onshore applications stop
Most temporary visa holders, including Working Holiday and Skills in Demand holders, can no longer apply for a student visa from inside Australia.
No family on new applications
First or further student visa applications can't include family members unless an exemption applies.
No adding family later
Family members can't be added after a student visa is granted. There are no exemptions to this one.
Applications lodged before 2 October are assessed under the old rules. Source: Study Australia, October 2026 update.
